The new hook

The kids are now hooked to "Cut the Rope"..

It is amazing how they pick up this game step by step.

It is pretty tricky and one has to have a good intuition for predicting trajectories to play this..

Currently restricted to 15 minutes maximum play time per day on weekdays and 30 minutes on weekends..

You are "it", with a piggy twist

Last night we got together with the cousins. We decided to avoid crowded public places and watched a movie at home instead.

Most of the conversation was centered around the flu.

While the adults are seriously worrying about the flu, the kids, safety etc, the kids are apparently playing a game called "swine flu"

One kid is supposed to be "it" and they go chasing all the other kids. When they manage to touch another kid they say "you have the swine flu now!" and now both the kids go tackle the rest..

Interesting perspective from a kid standpoint!

Hopefully it teaches them subconsciously that the more people who have the flu, it is easier for the rest to get it. Then again, these are kids playing "swine flu" without knowing what it really is.

Now don't get me started on the great job the media is doing on this topic. Have lost whatever little respect there was for the few in the media.. (most of it was already lost after they held people accountable and did great investigative reporting during the WMD issue)!

Sad. Very sad.

Mastermind 2- Answers*

Thank you all for guessing. In spite of a very busy week, the 30 or so minutes every alternate day checking your responses made the week interesting!

Maybe this round was a lot easier or you guys got the hang of it very nicely..

Most of the clues were cracked by round 2 or 3.

1. Gem | behead | Press | Jolie

Daniel Pearl - the Journalist who was beheaded after 9/11. Jolie was in the recent movie "A mighty heart" where she plays Mariane Pearl, Daniel's widow.

2. Kapiolani | Occidental | Harvard | Change

Barack Obama -> The "Change" man, born in Kapiolani hospital, went to Occidental college and Harvard.

3. Watchtower | Foxy | Experience | Wah Wah

Jimi Hendrix -> All along the watchtower, Foxy lady are some of Jimmi Hendrix's amazing performances. His band was called "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" and he popularized the Wah Wah pedal.

4. Boundary | Field | Kangaroo | Captain

Allan Border -> Thought this was a dead giveaway. Boundary is a cricket term and "border" is a boundary in the literal sense of the word. No one got it till round3.

5. History | Dangerous | Bad | Thriller

Michael Jackson -> 4 of his albums.

6. Seattle | Doors | foundaion | Antitrust

Bill Gates -> Doors is Windows by association. The rest was obvious. There were many Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan guesses after the 2nd clue. Can understand the sleepless in Seattle connection, but I missed the connection to doors. Judging by the overwhelming change from Gates to Hanks after second clue from so many, have to go watch that movie again!

7. Vande Mataram | Rose | Khadijah | Panchathan

ARR -> It was either him or B. Chandra. But ARR is in the news now. Rose was reference to Roja. Khadijah is is kids name and the last one is his studios name in Chennai.

8. Acid | 1947 | No Entry | Lifeline

Anil Kapoor -> Another in the news dude. Acid was Tezaab. 1947 was a reference to his next big hits Mr. India, 1942 a Love story (I put the freedom connection, but it would have been easier if the clue was 1942 instead of 1947), No entry was another award winning movie for him. Lifeline was a reference to "who wants to be a milllllionnnaiiiireeeeeeee"

9. Funny | Grimm | Knight | Mountain

Heath Ledger -> Funny ~Joker, he was in the movie "the Brothers Grimm" and Knight was a dead giveaway for "The Dark Knight" and finally "brokeback Mountain".

10. Sclerosis | Time | Cambridge | Physics

Stephen Hawking -> the posterboy for fighting ALS (a form of lateral sclerosis) who wrote "A brief history of time", Physics professor at Cambridge University.

Results (only those who sent responses consistantly) instead of quessing one or two clues.

Balaji......: 2/2/2/3/2/1/1/2/2/2 = 310
Dilip.......: 2/1/3/3/2/1/1/3/3/1 = 300
Coffeerocks.: 0/1/0/0/2/2/1/0/2/2 = 200
Karthik.....: 3/3/0/3/3/1/3/3/3/0 = 180
Bharat......: 0/3/3/3/3/3/3/3/3/3 = 180
Meblogs.....: 4/2/0/0/0/0/1/4/3/1 = 150

* Apologies.. Balaji won this one also.. Dilip was second.. My counting scores was based on going back into Gmail with the thread. Never verified if there were mutliple guesses between rounds or the time.

thanks for playing!

(1=40, 2=30, 3=20, 4=10, 0 = did not play that round)

Balaji 0/2/2/2/1/1/3/1/1/3 = 290/9 =32.2

Dilip 4/3/2/1/3/2/4/2/4/4 = 210/8 =28.2 (joined at round4)

Declaring Balaji and Bharvi as joint winners and Gauri and MeBlogs as runners up!

mention on request :

s.b./v.b 0/0/0/0/3/ / /1/2/2 = 120/6 =20

Dilip and s.b. started cracking clues but unfortunately they already had many earlier round clues in front of them.. sure they would have scored higher if they started playing earlier.

Thanks to everyone who played the game!

This is the first time this blog has had a game on it. Have learnt a couple of lessons here.

1. There will be another game, hopefully within a month or so. This was a great experience!

2. It will have 10 rounds like this one.

3. But we will just play it over 4 consecutive days (starting with Thrusday night USA time) gives everyone in US and India/Singapore/Hongkong a fair chance, and most of the game will run over the weekend..

4. All 10 rounds will have clue 1 on first day at midnight, clue 2 on second day at midnight etc.. That way it is easy for me to keep score!

5. Next time, we will have a more elaborate description, rules, example at the beginning so more people can play and not feel left out after round 2 because I didn't explain it well enough. (Karcar got a lot of clues and even traced my line of thinking with the clues. . . wish he had just gone for the game!) So many of you gave me isolated guesses to some clues but did not play through the rest of the rounds.

6. Will also restrict it to only real people or characters played by real people. That way, the fullyautomatix and Barney type clues will be out!

On a closing note, San refused to play till round 5, then got 4/5 in 6-10 right on first pass! She would have placed in top five....but she knows how I think so it is not fair to let her play!

Finally, thanks to all who played! You made this really enjoyable.

Game - update

Now that all four clues are out for the round 1, and after the example post, the number of guesses that have come in the last day have been amazing!

The best part is, you guys caught on to the game and most of you are cracking round 1 and 2 and

three of you have already got round #3 right!

Current leaders are Gauri, Balaji Dilip in that order.. unless Bharvi cracks #3 with 2nd clue in which case she jumps back to first place..

So many of you guessed Abdul Kalam for #3.. Somehow "missile" immediately brings an Indian connotation and it is linked to Kalam!

:)

Giving mastemind clues in BHU 17-18 years ago was easy! There was no google then.

Giving clues that don't get you a google hit is more difficult and this has definitely challenged me.

This game also brings back fond memories of a bunch of dudes who were extremely good at this.. Deva, Durgaprasad, Abhijit, Kiran, Rajeev..and of course Sanjay Chugh (dont know if I got his name spelt right) who came to conduct the competition in BHU that year. He told me that I was amazing in this game. First real complement anyone gave me at any competition in BHU!

Here's to all of you, wherever you are!

Going to keep this game alive for another 3 rounds. (Yeah, I have the clues already in my head).. so this will be a week long event and we will tally it up Sunday night!

:)

Thanks for taking part!!!

Clue 4 : Gaul

Round 2

Clue 2 : Maverick

Round 4

Clue 1 : Summer

Current leaders are Bharvi and Gauri.
Five others have points on the table.
The rest have a lot of close guesses, but this game is about word association!
and please don't google and get the answers. I tried some combos and got hits on the third or fourth pages.

Game - Example

For some who are asking for an example of how this game works...

Here is one!

Clue 1 : Dynamite

Clue 2 : Peace

Clue 3 : Prize

Clue 4 : Sweden

well if you have all the four clues, you have probably figured out the answer is

Alfred Nobel

but if you managed to think Dynamite was invented by Nobel and guessed it on the first clue you got 40 points..

by clue 1 it is hit or miss.. you could have guessed Clint eastwood

Usually by clue 3 you have a giveaway!

and by clue 4 you should have the answer..

think synonyms, similar sounding words, concept, related to..

It is like Charades.. with 4 words!

:)

Cheers.......
