Mehendi Laga ke rakhna...

Girls !

Where can I get a Henna (marudhani) plant in the bay area? If we plant it, will it survive the temperature? Can we grow it like Curry leaves?

Please do let us know if it is possible..

I am not so sure about the bay area but I know that you can order henna plant (and seeds) on the internet. Wrt growing, this site has a lot of useful information - http://www.hennapage.com/henna/encyclopedia/growing/houseplant/. Having had a henna plant at home in Madras, I have been flirting with the idea of having one here too - have done some research, but have implemented it :) Please let me know if you manage to grow a plant here in the bay area - would love to hear your first hand experience on that.

Also how and from where, did you get the curry leaves plant, assuming you have one?

I doubt it Sundar...if it would grow, but worth trying.

If you have friends from Houston, you can ask them. I heard Henna and curry leaves grow very well there.

My Uncle buys tropical plants from website, I'll ask him too.

all, thanks for the comments and link

we got our first curry plant from houston.. a relative got it on a plane (before 9/11 days when you could bring a plant).. three years later it died of frost.. all it takes is to leave it out during winter for a night and it is dead.

then we got another plant from Yamagami nursery three years ago. this one is still only a foot tall and is taking time to grow. but it is alive..apparently curry plants go through growth spurts and one they grow they grow like crazy. but when you pick the sapling, you don't know if you picked a winner..

:)

going to search for Henna in local nurseries.. and try the same trick of bringing it inside the garage during the winter nights.

first we have to find the plant.

Swatantra.. we have boxes and boxes of henna powder here from our many India trips. still it doesnt match the color of the fresh mehendi.

thanks for the offer. that was really touching.

:)

I don't know whether you guys in bay area were affected...but there was a shortage of curry leaves around the same time as rice and dhal shortage....so we went a bought a curry leaves plant...it survived more than a year and half now...

Seems like Houston is best suited for growing henna
